What You Need to Know About Lambertville’s Master Plan

Lambertville residents are very fortunate to now have plans underway to revitalize our beloved Strand Theater, instead of witnessing the construction of a 150-person wedding mill built on our quiet streets – but we might not be so lucky next time!  We must amend our Master Plan to protect us from future over-development!

The Master Plan is a long-term vision for how Lambertville will grow and develop. It acts as a comprehensive guide for important decisions about land use, development, commerce, housing, infrastructure, and environmental protection in the city. The Master Plan is the citizen’s means of preservingLambertville's unique character while effectively managing growth. An update is way overdue!

Lambertville last updated its Master Plan with the adoption of the 2019 Master Plan Reexamination Report on June 5, 2019 – six years ago.  It recommended updating the Master Plan’s treatment of affordable housing, historic districtdesign guidelines, traffic calming, parking and other areas. These issues are more relevant than ever, and action is needed.  Regular updates to the Master Plan are essential to keep the plan relevant, legal, and aligned with community desires.

An Out-of-Date Master Plan and Zoning Can Have Major Implications for Lambertville Residents

Outdated Zoning: Land use decisions may be based on old rules that no longer match the city’s actual needs or growth patterns.

Infrastructure Strain: Essential services like roads, utilities, and public transportation could become overburdened, leading to traffic congestion and inadequate services.

Missed Opportunities for Progress: The city might fail to incorporate crucial modern elements like sustainable practices, climate change adaptation measures (e.g., managing flooding), or new technologies.

Reduced Quality of Life: The city might fail to plan for necessary amenities, schools, parks, or health services, which could diminish residents' quality of life.

Lambertville’s Planning Board is responsible for creating and maintaining the Master Plan. They recommend the necessary ordinances to the Mayor and City Council to implement the plan's long-term vision.

Speak up and let our government know that work must begin on our Master Plan NOW! No more delays!

Community involvement is crucial including attending all public meetings and opportunities for residents to provide feedback and local knowledge to help outline successful development strategies.

Finding Information: The Planning Board holds public meetings, which are announced on the City calendar, and all master plan documents are available on the City of Lambertville’s official website.
